she would dream..... {bleed through}

she would dream of green hair

she would question and wonder; she would never be the norm.....

and she would be on fabric; dreaming outside of the box- she would not want to be limited to paper alone

she would allow her green-haired personality to bleed through with this side only to be seen by a few

recap {last week; day one}

the last week of june i attended an art class: stamp carving and making papers. we had a fantastic time. great group of people and wonderful teacher, jennifer stone- full of tips and tricks and thorough explanations. you can see her schedule and other artists that she is bringing in.

the stamps below are her most-fabulous stamps....the one closest in the pic actually say, "steal....and you die."

it is soooo almost worth the risk........love that one.

her's below are made from moo carve. this is nice to carve as it is relatively easy to carve into versus the huge erasers from the dollar store. the erasers work too, but, a bit more difficult to carve.

and then there is fun-foam! have you made stamps with fun foam? this is quick and so easy!  you just need to have the sticky foam. super fun!

i did circles....(happiness.....).

we used our stamps to stamp on papers to use in other things. such as my work below. this is early on but, you can see that i used my circle stamped paper in this one.

i turned the piece- but, below is the final version of this work.

fun foam stamps.....

happy humpday!

class {weekend}

so this past weekend i was the pupil. and what a treat! we made stamps and tinted papers on friday. above is one of the stamps i made.

and i am just gonna say.....love it!

then, on saturday we made papers. and made papers. papers.

did i tell you that we made papers?!....oh- cuz we made papers. i came home with a stack of papers that i cannot wait to use. (in fact, i think i feel a cold coming on....maybe i better stay home....)

so above and below are a portion of my papers i made.

and the studio space we worked in........aaaaahmazing! it is filled with her art and these totally adorable little gardens.

there is just cool stuff there.....fabulous art to look at, lovely plants, interesting and colorful mixed yarn blankets, a pile of art books and this wonderful pillow below, and windows to die for.

simply said, a wonderful space to create.

below was our instructor Jennifer Stone.

she is the best. great demos and explanations and plenty of help while you are working to keep you on track and be successful!

thank you Jennifer for the best weekend!

class-time {pupil}

there is something about packing up your art supplies preparing to go to class isn't there?!.....it is hard though, because don't you just want to pack everything? i take my favorites and undoubtedly think, oh, i what i need is this-

and that is for sure back at the studio. and there you are.....

but, for the sake of the positive side, it forces you to sometimes try other options that you may not have otherwise chosen. and thus, pushing you outside of your comfort zone; forcing you to learn.

and grow as an artist.

this class i am taking is about making stamps and creating papers.

the stamps above are the instructor's stamps- and they are wonderful!! she said that we could borrow anything to use, but, one stamp says if you don't return you will die.

not sure i want to tempt fate, but.......i am just saying...maybe she wouldn't miss just one.

cannot wait to see what we are going to do today.....

happy saturday.

art journal page {documented life project}

painting in my art journal last night trying to keep the Documented Life Project challenge in mind, which this week is stencils, stamps, and masks. sometimes that transition from current projects back to more playful work seems like a struggle. i have been doing a lot of my printing and studio princesses which are small, tight, and confined within the tea bag and paper; so to go back to painting on even a large piece of paper- is a transition.

i started with a journal page that already had something down on the paper and no gesso this time; but, this pic is fairly far into my play at this point. i had used stamps and a stencil.

i love the juiciness and color lust of this pic.

i had a bit of a hot mess and needed to tone this page overall. i had glued some papers down, but, ended up ripping those back off revealing the white and original page underneath.

ended up with a bit of a mess, but, felt good to just play....happy tuesday!

starting the year with homemade stamps

looking around on social media i have been so inspired by the many pics and posts of others making stamps. i couldn't take it any longer and had to break out my own carving utensils and make a few for my myself.

and now that Christmas and New Year's is over, i am getting ready for valentine's day! how can you resist some hearts? and maybe a little "be mine"?

only thing was, i was thinking that i had remembered to reverse the words before putting the "be mine" onto my rubber....but, sadly to say, my first attempt resulted in a backwards print.....so, i did try again- only to discover that my "n" was still backwards (OMG...really.); but, no one is perfect and maybe it will be more quaint. right?.....

after my two attempts with letters and words....i needed something way less complicated apparently and moved to hearts; creating two small hearts. i used a large $1 eraser from the dollar store for my "be mine" stamp. these work great because usually you can do two different stamps on each side- or, like me, if you make a mistake on your first attempt, you can flip the eraser over and start again.

you will see in the pic above, i again, used a small eraser that my kids no longer use and just broke in half to allow for two stamps. the small erasers are not thick enough to allow for two stamps on one like the big erasers.

the one thing i will warn against when using erasers is that i cannot guarantee how the stamps will hold up long term- so, the erasers work great if you are just starting out with carving and do not want to invest a bunch once you purchase your carving tools; or if you like making many stamps this option is good for many.

so, will you all still be mine?.....

#raesstamps from PaperBag Studios

stacking up some great stamps..... these new stamps are from PaperBag Studios and were created by the lovely Rae Missigman. recognize the name?....she is one of the creative artists behind the Art to the 5th and the Documented Life Project.

each stamp has wonderful details and is super easy to use. i have made a few things using these stamps-let me show you some samples i created.

i love this card i made using the new stamps. for the feather encircled with paper and stitching. i actually stamped on tissue paper first and wanted to sew around the feather, so i backed it with notebook paper for support first. i tore out the middle of the notebook paper and attached to the card.

i made these mini's creating the backgrounds with acrylic paint and stencils before stamping on each with Rae's stamps. the bottom mini i used a stabillo pencil over the stamped image and spritzed with water to get the look that i achieved.

the possibilities with these stamps are endless..... interested in getting some of your own stamps? wondering where do i get these?! the stamps can be purchased starting today at noon by clicking here.

be sure to stop back to see what else i am creating.... and happy stamping to you!
