she would dream..... {bleed through}

she would dream of green hair

she would question and wonder; she would never be the norm.....

and she would be on fabric; dreaming outside of the box- she would not want to be limited to paper alone

she would allow her green-haired personality to bleed through with this side only to be seen by a few

inchies

have you ever made "inchies?" they sound like they should always be super easy because they are so small, but, believe it or not- sometimes small is not easy.

 too small=hard

so thank goodness while i was pondering what to do, i noticed an old receipt and my pile of small fabric scraps. i used file folders cut down to size as the base and then, glued my ephemera paper onto each square before sewing my small fabric scraps on. i love that purple thread.....gives a pop of color on these neutral flavored squares.

fabric stacking....

this is a stack of my new fabric.....so excited! i am making "smalls" blankets for our local hospital craft fair. what are smalls you ask? instead of making a full size blanket with the silk edging, i am making a small blanket the size of a quilting fat quarter- which is like 18" x 22" and much more manageable if you have a young one that becomes attached.

the smalls are a colorful cotton front and a flannel back with a silk edging. i am making smalls for boys and girls. i am thinking of holding back a few to post in my etsy store.....i may keep one for each and send the rest to the fair. we will have to see....much sewing ahead.

i actually had gotten one smalls done and noticed that my sewing machine was starting to act up with the thread tension. by the time i had gotten to the second blanket i knew for sure as it was pulling the fabric and would not lay down flat. so a quick tour to the local machine shop and back to tip top shape and ready to sew again.

but.....(isn't there always something)....i have 2 kids going off to college this year and move in is on friday for our freshman; so the sewing may have to wait until this weekend. this week has been filled with packing and checking if we bought everything she will need and washing. (where does all this come from?!....goodness.) anyway....not wishing anything away- life goes too fast without that. trying to enjoy the craziness of this college transition. our house will definitely have a change with two kids out to college.

are you sending kids to off to college? or back to school?....happy tuesday!

SHE tags

i had been thinking about SHE and what i could make for a local women's day/ conference. the day is set aside for women to get their mammos and then come and shop and get other information about women's health. and to remind us- to embrace the SHE.

i came up with these tags and left the back open so that if you have a date or a special woman who survived breast cancer or maybe needs to be remembered- i would be happy to individualize your tag with the information.

i posted them in my usual spots to share, and decided to put them into my etsy store so anyone could have one.

the blue eyed bird with fluttered wings {on fabric}

i was recently in a swap challenge where we were to create something with wings on it. now normally this should be easy, however for whatever reason i seemed to have a block for this project. or maybe there were so many ideas floating through my head that it was hard to focus on just what exactly i wanted to do.

with the deadline looming, i needed to decide on what i was making, and focus. i had been reading a past ClothPaperScissors issue and had seen cloth that had been painting on and then, sewn on and thought this may be just what i was thinking of.

i grabbed a small piece of white cotton and started by putting down some spray inks with stencils to help create my background. i used a variety of inks and a little spray of alcohol to allow some of the colorful ink to run, then going back in with some acrylic paint and finally sewing on on bird.

i did initially stitch around the outside of my square to secure the layers of fabric. i did use 2 pieces of cotton with a thin layer of fleece in between. i stitched a couple of times simply for interest and of course, not totally straight.

i did also add a vintage ribbon handle so this blue eyed bird could be hung. and finished it off with my signature.

happy thursday!

tag....

i wanted to participate with the tag making from artspeciallyfriends.blogspot.com . this is the tag i made yesterday.

the back is pretty simple; although, the numbered tag at the top is a metal tag i made with white paint, stamps, and UTEE from an earlier post this year.
