tag {squared}

when it is hip to be square.... playing along with Roben-Marie's week long tag challenge

Are you playing?

  • thickened notecard (glued two together); cut to square
  • homemade stamp (stacked circles); painted over
  • pencil
  • hi-flow acrylics in various colors
  • stencil (although i was heavy-handed with the paint, and used a water wash to remove some of the paint)
  • sari ribbon

happy short week!

tgif {tag-it}

tgif.

tag-it! i loooooove painting on used file folders and the whole point is to create a hot mess! how many times do you hear that you need to focus on the composition; clear focal spot?

sometimes don't you just want to grab that paint and go to town?! i say yes! make that hot mess and love it! because just as Mr Gerald Brommer told me, "kristin, that is what scissors are for."

yep- you heard it. create a hot mess and cut it down to a nice size to make it look fabulous!

happy friday.

stamping up a storm

i signed up for a stamping swap recently and made a tag and an ATC.

my tag was made with a base of scrapbook paper on the front and music paper on the back. i painted the tag with acrylic paint and added some silver spray ink to my background before stamping with some of my favorite stamps.

i added the ribbon that matched my paint to finish it off.

here is my ATC below. i gesso'd the front to start to cover most of the background before using spray ink and stencils to add more color. i also used walnut ink and more of my favorite stamps.

SHE tags

i had been thinking about SHE and what i could make for a local women's day/ conference. the day is set aside for women to get their mammos and then come and shop and get other information about women's health. and to remind us- to embrace the SHE.

i came up with these tags and left the back open so that if you have a date or a special woman who survived breast cancer or maybe needs to be remembered- i would be happy to individualize your tag with the information.

i posted them in my usual spots to share, and decided to put them into my etsy store so anyone could have one.

tag revival- a video (link is fixed!)

still working on my video skills and trying to get the hang of this whole filming, editing piece.....

i was working on another tag and had painted it into a mess. i decided i needed to walk away from the tag. so the next day, i thought i would film the process to show that even if you make a mess- you can always find another way to create something that you like.

so here is the video of the tag revival.....

documented life: challenge 8 {add a tag}

this week's challenge was a add a tag into our moleskin. searching around my studio space i came across this cute little vintage hot pad holder i had been saving to do something cool with (not the one i was looking for....but, suddenly had become the one i was looking for.....)

i have been so inspired by Jenny Doh and her "free stitching" that i wanted to try my own hand at this task. so i gave some free stitching a whirl on my hot pad....

i used Roben-Marie's trick for my background paper. i used some of my own "overpainted" paper and then, cut it down to size to fit my page. Roben-Marie had a wonderful video on how she worked this challenge.

i re-enforced my tab to support my hot pad tag i was adding. one to the front of the page and another to the back side. i used a "paint chip" paper in colors i liked for this support.

here is my back side support.

to sew my paint chip supports into place, i sliced the washi tape holding my page in and took it out of my book. this made sewing my page much easier.

then, when i was done sewing, i taped my page back into my book with more washi tape.

tag....

i wanted to participate with the tag making from artspeciallyfriends.blogspot.com . this is the tag i made yesterday.

the back is pretty simple; although, the numbered tag at the top is a metal tag i made with white paint, stamps, and UTEE from an earlier post this year.

anniversary tag

vintage ribbon and cotton hankie- 22 years for us.

a little felt and sewn on button

a little vintage chemistry book paper..."the years together will have resistance to shock and corrosion."  my husband is scientist, so the book paper is classic and humorous...

again, a little mix of chemistry- which all good relationships need to have to survive. had to add the bit about the kids- our anniversary was spent at a state track meet and supper out (we spent the day with family and friends and KFC....hey, i didn't have to cook now did i?)

i liked the mix of colors and textures and all the years together.
