potential in the eye of the beholder

when you look at my picture you may see a small pile of rusty items- junk even, but, this small rusty pile of stuff will be my next "doll."

tomorrow, a group of high school students are coming to my house to see my studio space and interview me. they are interviewing local artists, and i was lucky enough to be asked. here's to seeing potential....

comment

yesterday at work, this very nice co worker said to me that she liked seeing me because i wore interesting things- clothes that only i wear- but in a good way (alrighty...not totally sure this is a compliment, but, i am going to look on the positive side)....now, yesterday, i was thinking that i was dressed fairly normal. professional. i wore a long turquoise blue sweater with a teal scarf with little dingle balls and tan slacks. not exactly what i would say was one of more artsy outfits to say the least.

so today, (again- rather boring....)i wore grey and tans, and managed to sneak in my artsy polka dot socks today beneath my patten leather black shoes! ha..... now here is maybe something to consider interesting that others might not wear.

new neutral

this painting was one that had seen many different looks before settling on the neutrals. i am really liking the texture on the painting created by the many looks that i just couldn't get to make me happy.

happy monday to you! thanks for looking around!!

dreaming....

i had found these super cute hand towels at our local gift store downtown and could not pass them up. when i brought them home, i thought, why don't i have more of these colors- cuz i love these?....and then i looked up at my marigold kitchen and remembered why. we have been looking at kitchen plans for about 3-4 years and seriously this past year. in my dream kitchen i would like it to be green and white with dark cupboards. yes- that would be awesome.....here's to my dream kitchen.

DIY tape

i found this project that you could make your own decorative tape (now i am sorry, but, i can't seem to find the link....) anyway, they used a two sided tape and papers. the tape they had used was expensive and they had ordered it online. i am too impatient for that and went to my handy dandy hardware store and promptly found a double stick carpet tape. so this is what i used and it worked great! then, i simply picked whatever i wanted to use as tape for papers. i used newspaper print, scrapbooking papers, and had made my own paper which is what is pictured below. the only trick is to make sure that if you are using a paper that only has one side- make sure you are sticking your tape to the white side so the decorative side is what is showing!! (hate to tell you i learned that the hard way....but, yeah....hard way). so when sticking the tape to your paper, make sure it is the white side and then, trim the edges if need be. i used the tape in an art journal, but, it could also be used for collage, scrapbooking- the ideas are only limited by you- so think outside the box when using your homemade tape!

lucky duck

i had to run into town last night. walked by a new store at the mall because of a very cute shirt in the window. i had not ever been in this store, and i thought i should at least check prices and see if there was other cute stuff.....strolling through there was a sale rack with the cutest long red orange sweater with huge buttons. now i have to tell you prices were pretty decent- i was liking that when i spied that sale rack. (i always need to double check those sale racks just in case) quick check of the tag....75% off. how could i pass that up? so today i will be enjoying my new long red orange sweater! gotta love a great sale!

tuesday morning coffee

here's to you tuesday morning! i love coffee and have probably more vintage coffee cans than any one person has a right to own. here's a peek at a few.....i love the colors of the vintage cans- they just don't make 'em like they used to.

old can become new

i had to clean up my studio this weekend- a high school student is interviewing local artists for speech class and asked to see my studio when she visits with me. i found a couple of old paintings that i liked, but, now, seem not quite finished. so, i painted and inked it up and like it infinitely better now!

queen of the DIY for the day

used the utee to put a nice thick protective coat on the lids.... with a spoon. i tend to be a little messy otherwise....

sprinkle, sprinkle....make sure to put tin foil underneath to protect your cookie sheet.

it doesn't have to be perfect, just a fairly even coat over the lid

looks like water sitting on top of the lid

here is my stack of 4 jars of lemon sugar scrub with their cute little bingo price tags.

this was me today....queen of the DIY!

friday fill ins

thought i would give this a try... and here we go!
  1. finally, i have a whole day off.
  2. a snowless winter sure takes some getting use to!
  3. dad says: "it is what it is."
  4. hal (short for halitosis ;)  is my favorite nick name for sprocket.  (he's our little dog- his breathe stinks!).
  5. 3 teenagers= chaos, though i wouldn't have it any other way.
  6. it took a long time, but i am still not coming up with anything for this- pathetic i know....
  7. and as for this weekend, tonight i am looking forward to just staying home, tomorrow my plans include some studio time, and sunday i want to get organized for another week.
borrowed the "fill in" idea from everylifehasastory- if you have not stopped by there- you should! she is a mixed media artist, designer, and instructor and is overall just amazing!

prayers

our nephew, here in the forefront (our youngest has the glasses) had to have open heart surgery to put a "patch" into the aorta the 1st of february and we have been sending prayers his way for the surgery to go well, and for his speedy recovery. last week was kind of up and down....we got news yesterday that he was actually able to walk half way to the play room! it is amazing what kids can go through and bounce back. God bless you and sending more prayers!!

last home game

winter always brings basketball season for us....and this winter has been just that. it started off a little rocky, (ok- alot rocky, with tears, and drama), but, fortunately it has settled down and things are coming around. and, better yet, she has learned yet again, with hard work, and perseverance, it will be ok. i will be a little sad when it is done, but, ready to move on to jo volleyball and track!

wanting

i am apparently tired of my living/ dining room colors. i am totally dreaming of either an orange or brown for the living room and i am thinking either a turquoise (blue or green?!) or a very pale grey for the dining room. i am liking the orange in the foreground and the grey at the very  bottom; but, i still like the turquoise strips i have laying there....

we have an old house (turn of the 20th century) and we have alot of wood work. both of these rooms were "redone" when we first moved in, but, we have lived here now for almost 12 years this spring.

i don't really want the colors to be something "trendy" that really isn't my goal. i just want a little lift and something different. what color is your living room? or do you have an opinion on my colors? let me hear from you!

snow; or the lack of.....

we live in the midwest, and denver is bracing for a "monster snow storm" today- flights from our area to denver have already been cancelled....but, where we are- snow has been a rarity this year strange enough. our kids have been praying that the snow will venture north and hit us as well....

i had gone for a short walk yesterday (cuz it was again a beautiful day) and noticed this little snowman- he was just barely above my knees. he was so cute. i thought he also symbolized our winter and snowfall this year with his size.

now we still have the rest of february and march to get through, but, comparatively speaking- last year at this time, we were trying to figure out where to shovel our snow to because the piles were so high- crazy! how much snow do you have this year?

wants

i have been thinking about studio time; hoping the weekend is coming quickly...

i want:
  • to make more handmade journals
  • to use more ink (hoping my inks that were back ordered are coming....)
  • to paint loosely; really liking my latest paintings
  • to use more pan pastels; i was inspired to buy these from a video at simplyme - she is so cool!
