girls {collaged}

i have been patiently waiting for these girls to arrive to the designated locations before posting because i did not want to spoil any surprises for the recipients. and this weekend i was able to see that the girls had arrived.

so excited to be able to show you these collaged girls.....take a peek.

each girl has wings- with the first pic i did a transfer technique to transfer her wings and then went back into the wings with a pen to add some additional details and a little color; the other wing i used scrapbook paper and cut out my shape.

the girl images are from my vintage 1956 catalog. i did not use the original, but, made a copy and used that in my collaged pieces.

our theme was supposed to be collage...i did have to sneak some paint and stamping into each; but, was really pleased with my selections of collage papers i used for each one. here is each page....

happy monday!

still "popping"- now into Christmas ornaments

here are two of my new Christmas ornaments and i am still creating and using Roben-Marie's Art Pop cards in my Christmas projects. and these cards are goooood, to the very last little scrap!!

can you see the zig-zag stitching in the center portion? the stitching is holding a piece of a card i had cut out. i then blended the card piece into with my background by using a little bit of acrylic paint.
the outer green edges are cotton scraps that i had used while painting to soak up some of my mess. sometimes i paint so wet that i end up with puddles- so, i use my cotton rags to soak up the mess and let the rags dry to use in other projects such as this. glue on a little red sparkle and add a vintage chandelier dangle.....and poof! Christmas ornament! i used another slim piece of cotton rag as the hangar.

the moments {a series} no 3: morning coffee routine

my morning routine includes coffee...which of course has to have a little sweetener (cuz i am not sweet enough....especially in the mornings). i like resting the spoon and packets on one of my vintage saucers. this set is one of my favorites....it is square. i love the green shades on the leaves, and i paid 2 bucks for the whole box. it doesn't get much better than that, and it makes me happy each morning.

swap meet and auction day

this morning my little mind kicked in early with the excitement that it was finally saturday and that there was a car swap meet AND an auction. i was hoping to get to both, and that is how my day worked out. first booth at the swap meet was looking great with a few scores. one of which is this vintage movie camera. oh, and its' box behind it....

i did a little "bundling" and put this awesome vintage camera with the movie camera above and drove a hard bargain with the man explaining that i was one of very few women at the swap meet this morning (it was 34 degree and windy this morning, so only the hard cores were out....) looking for this kind of stuff- he agreed and gave me the deal. :)

i rounded out the kodak-package today with this cool film tin....i will have to figure out something cool to do with it.

i found this cute little red-orange light....it will look nice on display with its' pop of color and great patina.

we then went to the auction. i managed to score some vintage fabric, a cool old-school tin ABC child board, some awesome wooden tools along with a wooden plane- that just needs to be cleaned up....cannot wait to see it then. and...these metal squares! i got five of them...i am planning on keeping one and maybe selling the other four. i also got to spend the day with my mom. she bared the cold and stuck it out at the auction with me (thanks mom!) and then, we came home drank coffee and did come crafting- how perfect was this day?!

wanting my own "occasional" sale

i live in a small town in the midwest of the united states and "occasional" sales have popped up everywhere! i have a few examples: the market in davis , kanaranzi creek, and tattered treasures . i went and visited 2 yesterday afternoon. what i have decided is that i like most of this stuff that i see at these sales (and i probably already own one of whatever it is....) and that i want to host my own occasional sale. these sales consist of main vintage items that can be repurposed but don't have to be; some of the charm is the item's wear and tear. i probably don't have enough stuff to have my own sale though....i would need to find a couple other people with a passion for junk and vintage items to pull of my own occasional sale. here is to finding some other peeps for an occasional sale....i am also hoping to visit another sale on tomorrow. happy friday to you!! are you into occasional sales? do you like junking?

last purchases at the 5 and dime

vintage and art books...a basket full!

canvas frames; some have the cut off canvas edges on them...kinda cool.

these are my favorite! i scored the shopping baskets and the stand! who can't use more cool storage?!

what can now be purchased for 10 and 15 cents?....i loved the little tags. i can hear them calling to be placed into something with collage.

my other favorite items...these small wooden boxes. a little dusty, but, totally cool!

school projects

our senior needed a map for his research paper....mom to the rescue! i had a vintage book that i ripped a page out of and roughly sketched south dakota on to. (thought i should tell you which state i sketched...)

the date on the page was oct 4, 1904. on the scoring for his project, the teacher wrote, "very cool- i love the old paper!" good thing his mom is an artist with a passion for vintage items!

this was the wedding invite that i made to go along with this project....simple.
this is the quote book that i helped our daughter make....i cannot wait for school project to be done! thank goodness this is the last week....i used ripped out book pages to bind the quotes for certain topics and stitched them together.

my quote...totally true! thank goodness i am an artist and relatively crafty! our kids have been very thankful for their mom this past week.

collections

my  daughter told her one of her classes the other day that her mother collects everything. now that is hardly fair....i do have a few things that are vintage and cool, but, hardly do i collect everything. here is my pie tin collection that is displayed in my very vintage kitchen. do you have a collection of something? let me know what you collect.

count down

9 days....i am so excited that september is finally here! i was afraid to start counting down before actually getting to the month it was in....can you guess what in the world i have been so impatiently waiting for?

what else....but,....junk bonanza!! it will be the best junking day ever!

here is some things i am hoping to find:
  • vintage clocks (love the "bens")
  • keys- you know the ones...cool, rusty, small
  • metal tags (anything...locker tags, animal tags- good steampunk stuff)
  • vintage fabrics (cuz i am loving sewing snippets of fabric onto anything!)
do you junk?
