finished piece {class}

i can hardly explain how much fun i had at class last weekend....this is my finished piece.

it is basically some of the various papers i made; a scribble of black stabilo pencil spritzed with water, and some scratchy doodles of a regular pencil.

amen.

happy thursday.

class {weekend}

so this past weekend i was the pupil. and what a treat! we made stamps and tinted papers on friday. above is one of the stamps i made.

and i am just gonna say.....love it!

then, on saturday we made papers. and made papers. papers.

did i tell you that we made papers?!....oh- cuz we made papers. i came home with a stack of papers that i cannot wait to use. (in fact, i think i feel a cold coming on....maybe i better stay home....)

so above and below are a portion of my papers i made.

and the studio space we worked in........aaaaahmazing! it is filled with her art and these totally adorable little gardens.

there is just cool stuff there.....fabulous art to look at, lovely plants, interesting and colorful mixed yarn blankets, a pile of art books and this wonderful pillow below, and windows to die for.

simply said, a wonderful space to create.

below was our instructor Jennifer Stone.

she is the best. great demos and explanations and plenty of help while you are working to keep you on track and be successful!

thank you Jennifer for the best weekend!

winner, winner....

i am going to be snail mailing my mail art to Lynne Knowlton.... she was my winner from friday! i am up extra early today....heading for watertown, south dakota for a week long art class. i cannot wait to start today! my mom and gramma used to go to these classes; and now, my mom and i will go (God bless you gramma....miss you!) this class should push my comfort zone and limits....we will be mainly painting in watercolor this week; although i am taking my acrylic paints along just in case!! not sure how much time and access i will have for the computer- but, i will be back for sure on friday- otherwise, i promise to post on instagram and twitter!

class complete- finished items

with our class now complete, i took additional pictures of Cora's pieces while we were placing the items into the window for public display.... this first pic is her encaustic piece. it is a wooden cradle with acrylic paint layered with wax and ribbon. i am not sure that Cora will ever work in wax again....there is a trick to working with wax and it is not always very easy to control. our focus on this project was to discuss the safety issues and concerns when working with encaustic and experience- which she did receive, but, the lack of control was not her favorite.
 her "found" box turned out really nicely. it began life as a gloves wooden box and with a little paint and paper and some stamping- it was magically transformed. Cora made ATCs on yupo to place inside.
 this is Cora's smaller canvas painting- we did talk about color choices and she did some painting with her fingers.
 this was the finished larger acrylic painting- she did a great job with color choices.
i am so glad to have met Cora and to have the opportunity to work with her! i cannot wait to see what she accomplishes.....dream big Cora and follow your whispers!

let class begin

my "class" began yesterday...we started in a must-have art journal and she had never done any sort of book binding- so we also made small notebooks. it is so amazing to me how quickly an hour and a half can go.....especially when you are having fun.

 this statement above really summed up our day yesterday.....
 we cut our paper to size- something easy to slip into a bag or a purse, folded the paper, and then, glued the paper folded edges together. our next step was to choose our "cover" paper. i was so glad to hear that she knew how to sew; however, she had never sewn on paper. so glad i could enlighten her to blend those two- paper and sewing! we used some wonderful scraps of paper from my studio, and of course, some stamping....with my favorite stamps. if you don't have your set....you need to add these to your studio.
once our cover was collaged, we took the first and last page and glued those down to the cover; folding the edge over onto the those pages. we will finish the inside off by gluing a cover sheet in to hide our edge. my student's notebook is the second photo and mine is this last one. i cannot wait to see what we create this next time.....
