documented life project {week 4} secret message

there is something about writing down your thoughts and seeing them on paper. this week's project was to document and then, paint over and just save a word.

i actually like doing this with my paintings- writing down and getting out whatever is rattling around in my head and then, painting over the words.

maybe the words show through, but, usually, the words get softly lost in the layers of paint and then, only me, as the artist knows and understands the full meaning of the painting. when someone buys the painting because they love it enough to pay for it- the fact becomes, that each of us, the creator and the new owner love the painting in two different ways but equally.

i didn't exactly follow the rules on this project this time....i wanted to make sure that i could go back to this thought and documented piece. i wanted to see this note to myself again....

i wrote my thoughts on a separate piece of paper and glued that note in and just showed the edge....tempting you to see the paper go around the edge and possibly see if the note continues on the other side....

i used my gelli plate to print the background, stamped, used a popart card from Roben-Marie, and washi tape to dress up and attach my card.

the moments {a series} no 6: rolodex file card art

yesterday i found time to play in my studio for just a bit.....i like to start with a rolodex file card. the cards are small and easy and nice to do as a warm up. sometimes i do several. i had been saving that purple circle....i loved the colors on it and knew it would pop on a yellow background. i used a stencil for the polka dots and a glimmer mist, added washi tape and the sewing. this was a moment yesterday.....

ink on yupo

here was an experimental playing...i was playing with different inks on yupo paper. i couldn't quite decide at the time whether i liked the clean look of my flowers or if i like this messy one that i sewed on to help create the flower. i do like the washi tape by the flower stem....this one is not finished,  but, coming along...."cooking" if you will.

turning "finds" into charms

in town we have these clothing collection metal bins. someone apparently did not understand the "clothing only" and there was stuff outside of the bin. so when i ran to the grocery and had come to the stop sign and glanced, over....my eye was caught by this sparkling item that had been left there. the junker in me kicked in, and going around the block gave my mind just long enough to think of the potential that this item may hold. so i went back and grabbed it.

i wish the pieces there straight across at the bottom, but, hey, sometimes you need to roll with the punches and not look a gift horse in the mouth! so this is the first mixed media "charm" i made. i am not sure about the book paper, but, i definitely like the diamond napkin and the black and white polka dot washi tape.

yes...definitely like the diamonds....can't wait to make more charms. my plan is to hang the charms with ribbon. what are your thoughts on this charm? let me know what you think! thanks for visiting and comments!

book binding project

our daughter had "lit" term cards that were supposed to be bound. my daughter did not tell me this fact so i just sent the 3 packages of note cards to school with her.

until, one of her classmates asked her, isn't your mom an artist? can't she do this for you?!

which then of course lead to my wheels turning to be creative, and get these note cards bound.

thank goodness, i have done other book bindings before, so, i knew how to proceed. a little glue, some paper, and any extras i wanted.

oh, and some washi tape to inform our daughter that she will "like it a lot."

and maybe throw in some napkins....(recognize the diamond napkin?- love that!)

hopefully, these newly bound note cards will live up to the expectations of not only my daughter, but, of her classmate. i do expect that nobody will have note cards that will look as cool as these.
