grad season- {let the card making begin}

this weekend kicked off the graduation parties for 2015 for us; and such my grad card making has begun. i was actually very thankful for a few stolen moments in the studio. the last time i spent in the studio was working to get our grad party invites done.

the kids' actual graduation ceremony will be this coming sunday on the 17th while yesterday was baccalaureate and it was very nice; but, had me on the verge of tears realizing the our daughter will move on to college this fall....i know, i know- they have to grow up; but, still......

i was amazed at how quickly this first card came together; and then, how i struggled to make the second one....crazy. the second one actually is the second try as i worked the first one too hard and it actually tore through where i had stitched on the cover- so i had to start again. so the bottom is the second try.....sometimes the masculinity escapes me.

happy monday!

grad invites & prom 2015

it is quickly becoming that time of the year for seniors to graduate and of course, their graduation parties. our party is planned for memorial day weekend- so i need to get our paper invites out (already posted to FB for the kids).

 i worked yesterday afternoon until i ran out of spray ink....my fingers are not normally hot pink. this pink is really hardy and very stubborn at coming off. still a little pink this morning.

stacking up my cards as i work through my process......

here is where the pink fingers came into the picture as i was holding the stencil for this step.

my next step will be the "tk" circles....

this is my sample for this year......

and, we had prom this past weekend - i just have to share a few pics.....here is TK with her date.

some of her best friends and a little leg....

this was the whole group...

and this is 3/4 of our girls 4x2 relay- these three are all seniors and have been running together since their 9th grade year.....it will be a sad day when our track season is done- these girls have been such good leaders for the younger girls.

hope your weekend was a fun.....what did you do?

grad card with sewing- a video

trying hard to get this whole video thing down....thank goodness i have kids!! once again, they were able to help me get the editing done.

i have had several people ask about the sewing on paper and how it works and if it is hard on the sewing machine- so i thought i would show a demonstration through video.

'tis the season for graduation....cards! {2014}

preparing for all of the graduations that we will be attending starting this weekend. sunday is the kick-off to grad parties and go all through the month-every weekend....

trying to get the jump start by making my cards ahead of time. i love using text book paper in the back ground of the cards. i had an old chemistry book hanging out in my studio- so, those pages are now the back ground paper of my cards.

graduation season

hard to believe that it is already the end of april....especially with the wintery month that we have had. seems like it is still like february, but, this weekend proved that spring is here, or at the very least close. saturday was prom, and very busy- our daughter went. and just for the record- there is a HUGE difference between having a son go to prom, and having a daughter go to prom- wow!; but, today, was my day....a day in the studio. and i put it do good use making graduation cards and other things (to be shared later....)

graduation invites

this is my first batch....

i did use chalkboard paint for the black swipe across the front. vintage book paper for the circles and scrapbook paper for the colorful strip along the left side. the no. 2012 is stamped in white craft  ink and sprayed with a fixative to stay put. ;)

i also used green india ink on the fronts and backs along with a gold glimmer mist. you can appreciate the glimmer mist better here on the back. and my husband is always telling me "it's good to be the king" so when i found that stamp, i had to have it- and it is perfect for the graduation cards! it is stamped in grey.

i did sew along the papered edge as well with a white zigzag and a black straight stitch for a little texture. i did not trim the threat close- choosing to let the threads come shortly off the page. my plan is to place his picture on the top half of the card and the information for the open house on the bottom. i did also "do" the envelopes. the scrapbook paper was so cool and had such nice colors that i had a left over piece that fit nicely on the envelope.

and check this out.....so yesterday morning at about 510am, my vintage old oak table that i have had forever decided it had had enough!! and broke in thirds! the loud crash of course woke me up. i came down thinking i was going to be mad at the cat, and was looking around, couldn't find anything until i turned around and really looked at my table, and then said "holy crap, my table broke!" what a way to start the day!

graduation card teasers

i went to my mom's studio space yesterday and we sweatshopped it making graduation cards yesterday. we punched 2 different size book page circles.

i used a swipe of chalboard paint on the cards.

we then followed up with drips of grass green ink and sprays of gold glimmer mist. we got close to finishing yesterday but, not quite. so this is a tease of what we were using.....hope you will stop back to see the finished product very soon! happy thursday!
