she {planner journal}

i managed to find a very cool sized daily planner.

to keep me organized?! nooooo....well maybe. my purpose was to do regular journaling, writing and if i happened to make some art in it.....great!

i was jotting down some notes while in the airport and then drew her.

ink, colored watercolor pencil, and Jayne Davenport's new white (well mine might not be any more) marker.

and- 29 faces starts today!! are you joining in?

happy wednesday.

art journaling {returned}

happiness is having my art journal returned after being published.....i was super excited to mail it in to Stampington for possible publication, but, it was a little scary knowing i was mailing it away; so i was happy to have the journal safely returned on friday.

it was interesting to see which faces Stampington chose to publish in their magazine. i am going to be honest......some of those faces....(yikes). this was years worth of work for me. years of lessons and trying.

so the first third to half of this journal.....was a bit sketchy; before i really started catching my rhythm.

i love the collage papers that are tucked into the pages. those were mainly there to prevent me from working through the thin paper.

thank you so very much Stampington for this opportunity! grab your copy of the magazine below. it is full of goodness!!

happy monday.

#artjournal #facefull

i purchased the journal as a package deal that came with two journals at Barnes and Noble. and if i am speaking honestly, these journals were probably meant for writing. notes, quotes, thoughts, dreams.....not for painting.

so using this for art has been somewhat challenging as the paper is thin. nice, actually very nice, but, thin, i paint wet and tend to be fairly abusive to any surface i am working on; so on more than one occasion, i ripped through the paper in this journal either with my pencil or simply by working my paint. sometimes working through unexpected and inherent problems can be interesting and add a twist to the work.

as i continued to work in this journal- i became wiser with collage placement and tended to use much more by the end of the journal. usual spots for my collage paper would be through the eyes or mouth. and i did like the neck area and sometimes used masking tape for the sides of the head.

these wise eyes know as they have seen the rest of this journal. my goal was to fill this entire journal with faces. i do have one more page to go; so hang in there with me...one more face and then this journal will be full.

happy thursday.

she was magical {29faces}

there is something magical about this strange girl. i had posted her the other day on my instagram with the caption "she would never be perfect but she would be loved"; and for me.....that is so true.

i love the collaged paper i put down and words softly peeking through her hand. the child-like smear of red around her mouth. the watercolored bow on her head and how the color leaked out of the bow space; and the fact that it is acrylic paint and not watercolor at all. i love the polka dot edge of her face from the stencil ink that was down on the paper before i started and then leeched through the gesso. and the diffuse golden yellow of her hair. and her nearly perfect nose. and the far from perfect hand.

do you have a favorite part?

29 faces {february 2016}

i started the 29 faces for february 2016. a bit behind, but, working on getting caught up. i did several faces yesterday and i could feel the face "dust" being blown out of the corners. my first one was definitely a warm up; and as i worked through the second one....i could feel the muse come to life.

this first one was not maybe one of my favorites- although, part of her i love....like this hair line area.

the second one.......this journal is a favorite because of what it holds, but it has made art journaling a bit complicated because it probably was never meant to be an art journal; so the page are thin and when damp- tend to tear easily. and her lips were one of those areas.....i apparently had worked that area too much- which lead to me collaging in a vintage envelop portion...which i now love.

again....loving portions of her.......these are a few favorites....

happy monday.

#29faces {september 2015}

i have been playing when i can....here are two more faces for this challenge.

i dabbed orange paint off my fingers from another project....apparently all over this page before i had started my face. i so like the strip of ephemera i glued down through the middle- you can kinda see it and i love that subtly.

this one i mixed watercolor and acrylics with stabilo pencils. i like the "shadows" of her face in the blue. i used M. Graham & Co- phthalocyanine blue. it is one of my favorite watercolors and i use it directly out of the tube onto my brush and alot of water. this color is sooo delicious! the pink on her lips is a pink stabilo pencil and the green and pink around her eyes are both acrylic. i had gesso'd this page to begin with as well- that helped with the charm of the blue and how it ran and dried.

happy hump day!
