a watercolor swap

i am participating in a watercolor swap with a floral theme. i was looking for watercolor paper when i stumbled across an old painting. i loved pieces of it but, not the whole thing......so i did a little rework and now really like what i ended with. this will be my swap for this trade. and i love all the little detail work in this piece and the colors.

i love the blend of the colors and the defined black lines and the mix with the undefined black lines.

i hope that the swap partner likes her piece. mailing it out today.....

mixed media flower with a map and papertowel

found a little play time in the studio this weekend in between a volleyball tournament and family time. i had been saving a used paper towel for something good and the something turned out to be the background for a mixed media flower.

i had been using an old map to roll off and clean my brayer when using my gelli plate and found a section that i loved; so i cut it out. then, i spied my used paper towel and knew what to do.... make this flower.

i had a few small scraps of fabric that i used for the flower stem and leave; using black thread to stitch it all together. i did use my new Dina Wakley paint for the blue (sky is the actual color) flower petals. here is a bird's eye view of the whole piece. i also used Tim Holtz's alphabet stencil to spray on my letters with Dylusions spray ink.

happy monday....

#printmakingunleashed {a mixed media paper towel}

i had saved a paper towel that had ended up with a cool pattern on it to start- simply setting it aside to see if some other creative idea would come along.....

low and behold, one of the print making unleashed challenges inspired me to use that paper towel to create a mixed media flower....i had used the paper towel to soak up spray ink off of an alphabet stencil. i love the lime green diamonds that were imprinted into the paper towel.

you catch a glimpse of the stem and leaves- those i used book paper and a strip of paper from a gelli plate print.

to tie the flower all together i stitched on the paper towel- sewing first the flower petals and later filling the petals in with a little ink. the center of the flower is watercolor/ ink scrap.

i ordered my book last week and expect a delivery sometime this week....cannot wait!!

the moments {a series} no 17: parents' night

we had our last home game for volleyball; and that is always parents' night. the girls give thier mom a flower and their dad candy.....but, the best thing is the hug when you meet up at half court. this is our daughter's junior year....one last short year to go after this one, and then, she will spread her wings and go off to college. but, until next year we will stay focused on this year with one more regular season game and then start sections next week.

i am thankful for this moment....

i added just a few fine details before turning the bouquet over to the bride on monday....i added her date of the wedding onto the leaves and a little pencil to the outer edge to bring it in..... when i explained the details to the mom, she cried; but, this is a really emotional week for all of them i think. i can't wait to go to the wedding on saturday! they are getting married in our historic palace theater- i can't wait to see what they come up with...they have another local artist is in charge of the decorating, so i am really excited for them.
