F {rolodex card}

this rolodex card is filed under F for finished, fun, faddish, far-out, fast.

these little gems are small and easy to work with. i tend to work on these in spurts. i will do several and then, not work on these again for months; but, the cards make a great distraction to other stuff you may be working on.

quick, easy, and totally enjoyable.

acrylic paint, ink, stencil, marker

tabbed rolodex card

have you checked out Roben-Marie's new art pops mini tabs?.....i had grabbed 2 different types because i love being able to put a tab on almost anything. the colors are as always amazing!! and she always uses wonderful paper- good weight and has a non-glossy finish so if you want to add something to the tabs- drawing, drips, dribbles,.....it is easy to do. i added the gold drips.

i used collage paper with washi tape on the background and followed up with dylusions' spray ink- spritz with water to run a bit.

i also did some small doodle with a pencil and always love adding the gold ink.

and of course, the tab....glued on, but, i liked the look of the staples.

the pink scribbles running through the middle are my new oil pastels. i managed to grab those at Walmart- if you want to try them- this is a relatively inexpensive chance. mine were $4.

happy monday.

#rolodexart

had made several rolodex cards, but, yesterday deserved only the grumpy girl.....

here are the other rolodex cards i made. the image below is from my vintage sears catalog; and so darn cute. i used a portion of an old hanger paper from a launder mat.

i love her head poking up above the card. i did cut her out and add some re-enforcement on the back to support her so i wouldn't have to worry about her getting folded back.

for the re-enforcement i used a scrap of a bingo card. it was a nice weight without being too thick. i did add that wedge of bingo card across the transition between rolodex and her head.

for the one below- i actually cut out this card out of a vintage mailer card. it is hard to tell as then i proceeded to cover almost the whole thing....oh well. most of the papers are from the 1970's.

are you on instagram? i recently found ronniecay. so love her!! this drawing was inspired by one of her recent posts from her sketchbook.

i loved the microbeads on this one. can you tell i was into things sticking up above the cards?

monday #rolodexart #altered

power went out during the night last night. woke us up because our smoke detectors are hard wired into the house, so when we lost power, the smoke detector sounded...

thought i would be smart and set my phone alarm so we could still get up on time. tried to use my snooze on my phone....and apparently i don't know how that works, or was too sleepy when the alarm went off because i did not set the snooze and we got up late anyway.......

really?!.....monday.

vintage sewing pattern paper background. skirt is from a 1950's sears catalog. disgusted girl from spring fashion magazine. crown is a stamp.

she will go into the roll.

a conversation

my mom had purchased this book for me "101 things to learn in art school" and each time i look through- something reaches out and whispers to my soul.

this particular note grabbed my attention and as i read through the message- i was contemplating my own artistic journey.

i think that initially- i knew what i wanted to do, but, lacked understanding on several levels for my own personal success... color palette, color wheel, and composition. i was afraid of neon colors and did not understand what would make my painting/ journaling pop. and composition.....this can still be a struggle. but, a few key notes.....collage papers need friends- always give them at least one friend and don't leave things hanging....they need to be grounded. "an image may contain information that arrives without your conscious understanding of how it got there. if you aren't engaged and observant, you might miss it or work over it."

i believe that i would previously work over it or miss it completely.....have a conversation with yourself and what you are creating- take your time if you need to....and keep practicing and pushing through; keep working and always learning.

i am preparing to go to class at the end of this week- so excited!

happy tuesday!
