village of homes {samples}

have been thinking about houses and how to make them....here are my sample runs. my first one turned out huge! the second one was much more reasonable.

i really like the beading across the roof edge. i also used a variety of fabrics including a scrap of a navy sweater for the front panel.

my big one unfortunately was good in theory; but, poor in execution..... i wrote the definition of "home" out of one of my 1928 dictionaries. the shape of that poor house...... i am not sure on that one. it is so ugly though that it is almost cute....

the big house does have some nice details- like i the beading and hand stitching along the bottom edge and the little lace panel on the side...

and i felt like the roof line needed some help- so i used some vintage ephemera and some more fabric.

feeling sew sew....

it is true!! i have been in a sew sew mood and felt the need to create little houses. i had stopped at the fabric store (always a dangerous place) on saturday to pick up thread; which of course caused lead me to have to look around a little more while i waited to pay for my stuff.....and, of course i found some adorable fabric i had to have and used to make the roofs. the houses measure 2" x 4 1/2".

 i hand stamped the "house" portion of each of the homes and the words. then, i rummaged through my vintage buttons looking for the perfect one for each of the homes....and stitched the houses together with love. i made a blocks worth :) and have some available in my etsy store. if you have a word and/ or a color that you would like specifically- please feel free to send me a message or leave me a comment and i will be happy to whip up another little house.

our house would not be a home with out our three kids.... our oldest is 15 (he only looks like he is 18) and every day here in mn is a painful reminder that his birthday is not until june when he will have a regular driver license and then, can drive without a parent. i anticipate a huge change in my hair color this summer...our middle is 12 going on 17. she is as tall as me and it boggles my mind how similar yet so far at opposite ends of the spectrum we can be. you would never image the medical miracle she overcame in her first year of life to get to this point- especially by seeing her...our youngest is 11 and has told me more then once he aspires to win the nobel peace prize...always original this one bringing up the rear...so tender, thoughtful, creative...they make our home fun, interesting, loud, colorful, full of laughter, not many tears, some frustration, but, always love. beyond the boundaries, past all expectations, never faltering, forever.
