black and white..... {balance}

latest work on canvas..... at least the second (maybe third) rendition.

was really checking my painting values and balance.

but totally feeling like life balance is off right now. too much due all at the same time.

hoping to find my own balance.

sometimes truthfully it is better in black and white.

i have been struggling to make it to the studio to do anything. between work and home projects that needed attention before the weather really changes....studio time has been nil.

so much, so that doubt and that fragile personal artistic view of what i can do was creeping in to tunnel my vision at the worst time as i have deadlines coming.

wanting to find some inspiration and push myself out of this funk- i realized i hadn't posted this face. maybe for various reasons (damn doubt)....but, it is interesting and raw.

and to be honest...sometimes that is all that is needed. nothing close to perfect or pretty. but, to add some quirky artist randomness, i had used this page for whatever reason as a color palette testing out colors along the edges. silly girl.

black and white.

the rawness and shades of grey.

sometimes the best.

stumbling  through this dark tunnel.

happy friday.

recap {last week; day 2}

and then we made papers...... because this was my second time through the class i knew that i mostly used the stained papers and the black and white papers- so that is what i mostly made.

i now have again a ridiculous stack of papers! which is a good thing to have if you are a mixed media artist.

happy friday.

progressive printing in black n white

the challenge the other day was to print with white paper and black paint, ink, or whatever was handy....mine happened to be black gesso.

i laid down a fairly thick layer of black paint on my gelli plate and then, grabbed items that happened to be close to add additional details into the print.

here is my first print off of the plate. the paint was thick and i could not really get the paint and print to really pull the details.

my second print, is by far my favorite print. i pulled the items off of the gelli plate leaving a ghost image of the details in the paint.....the edges on this print are a bit softer and the paint is lighter and not as thick.

now when i pull this print there was still paint and an image on my plate, so i decided to print one more time (hate to waste any paint)....

 i still like this one- the softness and the looseness. i had sprayed water onto the gelli plate to keep it wet and allow me to print one more time, as it was becoming fairly dry.
