what is garbage?

our son needed pics for a project. the easiest pics to get to sometimes are ones that hang out in my studio and are very old. we made copies of several vintage photos and when i checked on him later he had laid the cut out papers on the table and i knew instantly i needed to keep these papers.

my son's plan of course when he was all finished was to throw the papers away- but, i quickly said, leave all of those for me. my son thought i was crazy, but does understand that his mom is an artist and creatively special; and left them quietly on the table.

don't you sometimes see things and know that you have to keep them so you can make something with them?......part of the charm for me with these, was the cut from the top of the page, and the sharp edges cut without any concern for the rest of the picture. not quite child-like, but, clearly snips of abandonment to retrieve only what is needed.

happy thursday.

art journal {palette page}

the background of this page had been used as a palette (you can almost feel that big blob of yellow paint- can't you?! i should have used more paint...haha) and used to dab off stencils i was using with the gelli plate. loved the colors that i had used on other projects.

decided i would try to pull this page together with the use of stencils and spray ink and my new oil pastels.....thus the light blue scribble.

kinda liking this "palette" page now.....happy wednesday.

tabbed rolodex card

have you checked out Roben-Marie's new art pops mini tabs?.....i had grabbed 2 different types because i love being able to put a tab on almost anything. the colors are as always amazing!! and she always uses wonderful paper- good weight and has a non-glossy finish so if you want to add something to the tabs- drawing, drips, dribbles,.....it is easy to do. i added the gold drips.

i used collage paper with washi tape on the background and followed up with dylusions' spray ink- spritz with water to run a bit.

i also did some small doodle with a pencil and always love adding the gold ink.

and of course, the tab....glued on, but, i liked the look of the staples.

the pink scribbles running through the middle are my new oil pastels. i managed to grab those at Walmart- if you want to try them- this is a relatively inexpensive chance. mine were $4.

happy monday.

1x2 smalls

still working on "smalls." this time it is 1" x 2" rectangles. decided to go back to my roots and go with collage for these guys. my 3x3 square i had done last week was a disaster.....

i used ephemera paper scraps on my desk area.

and some paper that had been scraped off of other projects- like this absolutely wonderful purple piece.

love.

small struggles {square}

so for as easy as my other squares this week were....this 3 inch square was bound to be difficult - i should have known. this square has plenty of layers of collage and paint, overlaid with doodles; but, i was not happy with my girl....or whatever she is. i had to stop as i was starting to destroy my base which was a file folder.

happy friday.

week of smalls {twinchies}

this is my week of smalls....monday it was inchies and today it is twinchies....twinchies are a two inch square and for me, this size is a bit easier.

i like the square and this size is big enough to do a little more- actually look at your composition and layout.

i used a variety of collage papers with splashes of color and to finish my squares off, i ran them through my sewing machine (which always makes me happy!).

i used a different stencil for each pop of color. and the orange piece above and the green below are pieces of peeled paper-paint from other projects that were still on my counter.

the circle pop of watercolor below is one of Roben-Marie's Laguna Dreaming mini stickers. i also bought the mini tabs for making mixed media rolodex cards and other projects. her products are always printed on very nice quality non-glossy paper- so they are easy to mix into your own work. you can see what else Roben-Marie has in her shop here.

happy wednesday!

inchies

have you ever made "inchies?" they sound like they should always be super easy because they are so small, but, believe it or not- sometimes small is not easy.

 too small=hard

so thank goodness while i was pondering what to do, i noticed an old receipt and my pile of small fabric scraps. i used file folders cut down to size as the base and then, glued my ephemera paper onto each square before sewing my small fabric scraps on. i love that purple thread.....gives a pop of color on these neutral flavored squares.

classtime {by the bun}

i just love by bun, don't you? love the details and doodles- her art journal pages are so amazing! so when she had posted that she was doing an online Creatures class....i had to take the plunge and give it a whirl.

i am working through her class....here are my phase one pics. roxanne normally works in an altered book, so i removed pages out of a book that was falling apart- but, i liked the size and the paper felt good.

just love this pic of the two boys....

the class is easy to follow and if you do have questions- she is great about answering your questions. stay tuned....more to come!

today's frustration....

i am only techy enough to be dangerous....seriously. so last week there had been a few comments left and i so wanted to be able to reply- right?....

so i googled how to enable the ability to reply and got that added almost too easily. (i should have known better- cuz i was so proud of myself.....silly girl....)

but, when i did that i apparently deleted all of my "share" buttons on the end of the posts- like FB, twitter, google +, etc....and now, seriously- i can't seem to get the share buttons added back......

if you have an easy to read article to get these share buttons added back into the bottom footnote of posts- i would be ever grateful!
